giffgaff Account Disabled: PAC, Refund and Appeal Guide (2026)

The most important answer is this: there is a real cluster of recent reports from long-term overseas giffgaff users, but the public evidence does not prove that every user in China has been subject to one blanket ban. If your service has stopped, you received a termination email, or your Dashboard shows “Not available” for your plan and credit, do not begin with a location-spoofing trick. Protect the accounts that still recognize the number, then deal with the number, PAC and remaining credit.
This page was researched on July 30, 2026 using giffgaff's current Help Center, its terms, Ofcom switching guidance and public X posts from July 29–30. I did not find a public first-party announcement stating that giffgaff had terminated every China-based user. The current disabled-account help page says unusual activity, payment problems, spam and acceptable-use concerns can trigger a review, and that cases are assessed individually.
This is an incident-response guide, not a promise that an account can be restored. Public posts show that people reported a problem; they do not establish the number affected, the exact targeting rule or an appeal success rate. Do not invent UK employment, residence or travel facts in a support case.
What to do first when your giffgaff account is disabled
Image source: original Haiwaibiji process graphic based on giffgaff and Ofcom help reviewed July 30, 2026. It is not a carrier dashboard.
1. Keep the eSIM and do not sign out of accounts that still work
Until the status is clear, preserve the phone, physical SIM or eSIM profile, termination email, Dashboard screenshots, recent payment records and agent case. Do not voluntarily sign out of an email account, password manager, Apple, Google, Microsoft, banking, payment, exchange, domain, cloud or social account that still has an active session.
Once the number cannot receive a code, signing in again may be harder than maintaining a current session. Store operators can adapt the general recovery controls in the Shopify login security checklist: add an authenticator, passkey or security key, save recovery codes and give the primary email an independent backup method.
2. Move the most important SMS verification first
Work in this order: primary email and password manager; finance and payments; Apple, Google and Microsoft; domains and cloud services; work and social platforms.
- Replace the giffgaff number with a number you expect to control over the long term.
- Where supported, use an authenticator, passkey or hardware security key instead of SMS as the only factor.
- Download and store recovery codes offline.
- Verify recovery email addresses, backup numbers and emergency contacts.
- Record accounts that still need manual recovery and their official support path.
Do not let one roaming SIM remain the sole recovery route for every account. A phone number, like a domain, is a transferable identity asset exposed to renewal, policy and recovery rules. The domain ownership and transfer checklist explains the same long-term-control principle for another critical asset.
What happened in late July 2026?
Chinese-language X results showed a cluster of similar posts on July 29–30. One user said they had been affected and published a PAC and refund workflow. Another described plans and credit becoming unavailable. A counterexample matters: another user said they had not received an email and their number still worked.
The evidence therefore supports a narrower conclusion:
- Confirmed: several similar service-termination and restriction reports appeared within a short period.
- Not confirmed: the total affected, the country-level hit rate, whether every China-based user is included, or whether every case is permanent.
- Current first-party position: restrictions can be temporary or permanent and an agent must inspect the account.
- Not found as of the review date: a public giffgaff announcement of a blanket China ban.
There was also a community “mass ban” discussion in January, after which some people continued to report normal service. That history does not make the July reports false. It shows why social reach is not a substitute for your Dashboard, email and agent case.
Distinguish a restriction, deactivation and inactivity
Image source: original Haiwaibiji decision graphic. Treat your email, Dashboard, agent reply and deactivation date as the controlling evidence.
| State | Observable evidence | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Service restriction or account review | No service; Dashboard says “Not available”; app login may still work | Ask an official agent whether the restriction is temporary or permanent, what policy applies, and whether restoration is available |
| SIM or number deactivated | Official message says deactivated or disconnected; service has ended | Do not wait for automatic restoration; act on the PAC and remaining-credit window |
| Six months without qualifying activity | Inactivity warning; the SIM has mainly received verification messages | Before deactivation, make qualifying call, text, data or purchase activity; understand that this does not resolve a long-term roaming review |
| Payment hold | Failed, reversed or disputed payment appears on the account | Correct the payment method and ask an agent; this is different from a long-term overseas-use decision |
The giffgaff deactivation article lists fraud, call/text/data abuse and six months of inactivity among possible reasons. It also says a deactivated SIM itself cannot be reactivated. Inactivity normally produces advance communications, while the disabled-account article says some restrictions may appear without a separate alert. Do not treat those processes as identical.
Why the “63-day rule” is not a universal China deadline
Many posts present “63 days in four months” as the single explanation. The giffgaff Fair Usage Policy does say that using services in the EU and selected destinations for at least 63 days in a four-month period, without demonstrating prevailing UK use or presence, is likely to be considered unfair use.
That language sits inside the EU and selected-destinations roaming section. A long-term user in China cannot infer that day 62 is safe, or that a top-up or one text resets all roaming and location evidence. It is more accurate to treat 63 days as a rule for a named roaming zone, not a global restoration formula.
The policy also reserves rights to investigate, charge, suspend or disconnect. An agent must explain how the current terms apply to the specific account.
How to appeal without making up a story
Start through the official giffgaff help path. The page says agents handle personal account and payment questions and aim to respond within 24 hours. Prepare:
- your number, member name and contact email;
- the date and exact wording of the service email;
- Dashboard and remaining-credit screenshots;
- recent top-up, paid text or call evidence;
- the result requested: restoration, policy explanation, PAC or remaining-credit refund.
This factual template is safer than a copied story:
Subject: Request for account review, PAC and remaining credit
Hello giffgaff Support,
My giffgaff number is [NUMBER] and my member name is [MEMBER NAME]. On [DATE], I received [THE EXACT EMAIL / “Not available” IN MY DASHBOARD / NO SERVICE].
Please confirm whether the restriction is temporary or permanent, the policy basis for the decision, and whether restoration is available for my actual circumstances. I am currently located in [TRUTHFUL LOCATION] and my recent use has been [BRIEF, ACCURATE DESCRIPTION].
If restoration is not available, please provide or help me obtain a PAC and confirm the refundable remaining airtime credit and required payment details.
Thank you.
Do not reuse community templates that invent a UK employer, temporary assignment or address. A carrier can request verification, and inconsistent information can make the original case, refund and complaint harder. The general safety rule in the site's official-support guide also applies here: use the provider's real path and do not give a password or code to a paid “appeal agent.”
How to obtain a PAC and keep the UK number
A PAC is the Porting Authorisation Code used to move a UK number to another UK network. The giffgaff PAC guide lists three methods:
- Text
PACto65075for free from the giffgaff SIM. - Request it through Profile and settings.
- Call
43431.
The same page says you need to be in the UK to request a PAC. If you are in China, the short code fails, the account screen is unavailable or the number has already been deactivated, raise an agent case and request the code there. giffgaff's deactivation help says an agent can issue a PAC within 30 days after deactivation. After that, the number may return to the available-number pool and become irretrievable.
Ofcom's mobile switching guide, updated July 2026, says a PAC is valid for 30 days. Once the new provider receives it, the number should normally be ported within one working day. Whether a user abroad can order, verify, activate and roam with the receiving service still depends on that provider's identity, address, payment, activation and roaming rules.
Seven questions for a receiving network
X posts discussed CTExcel, BT and other eSIM offers. Some included referral codes, promotions or “never banned” promises. This article does not endorse one. Ask before paying:
- Does the network accept a UK number transferred from giffgaff?
- Can you lawfully open and activate it in your actual country?
- Is long-term overseas roaming permitted, or only short travel?
- What are the real monthly, SMS, maintenance, top-up and roaming costs?
- How does Wi-Fi Calling work abroad and what do its terms allow?
- What identity, UK address, payment card and device requirements apply?
- When is an inactive number recycled, and what complaint and export routes exist?
No carrier should be described as impossible to ban. A sound replacement fits the real usage pattern and is backed by a separate account-recovery method.
How to request a remaining-credit refund
The giffgaff deactivation article says an agent can refund remaining credit held at deactivation. It also warns that the credit is lost after 30 days and cannot then be refunded. If deactivation has already occurred, card details may need to be re-added before an agent can process the refund.
Include:
- number, member name, deactivation date and case number;
- the visible Airtime Credit balance;
- original payment method and recent transaction;
- a clear request for “refund of remaining airtime credit”;
- a separate question about an unused plan, if one exists, rather than assuming plan and credit refunds are the same.
Save the submission screen, confirmation email and reply. Do not send a full card number, OTP or account password to a third party.
What if the agent does not resolve it?
Give an agent the first opportunity to inspect the account. If the issue remains unresolved, use the official giffgaff complaints page and include the earlier incident number, timeline, evidence and requested remedy.
The current page says:
- agents aim to respond within 24 hours;
- formal complaints aim for a response within five business days;
- a deadlock can lead to a deadlock letter;
- the Communications Ombudsman can consider a complaint after six weeks without resolution, or earlier in deadlock.
The process can change, so reopen the official page on the day of action. Ofcom does not ordinarily decide an individual billing dispute for you, but its switching guidance explains the right to port. If a port is delayed or refused, also contact the receiving provider.
“Solutions” that are not dependable solutions
- UK IP or GPS spoofing: no reliable evidence shows that it restores a deactivated number, and inconsistent security signals can create more problems.
- Invented UK employment or address: false information can damage an appeal, refund or complaint.
- One maintenance text: it may satisfy an inactivity rule, but it does not reverse a long-term overseas-use review.
- Repeated login, device changes or deleting an eSIM: these can destroy useful sessions or configuration without removing a restriction.
- Giving a PAC, OTP or account login to a reseller: this creates number-porting and account-takeover risk.
- Prepaying a long replacement plan immediately: verify activation, port-in, roaming and refund rules before a long commitment.
Final checklist
- Important email, finance, domain, cloud and social accounts use a new recovery method.
- Authenticator, passkey or security key is enabled and recovery codes are offline.
- The eSIM or SIM, email, balance and Dashboard evidence is preserved.
- An official agent has confirmed the type and reason for the restriction.
- A PAC has been requested and its expiry recorded if the number matters.
- The receiving network has confirmed UK port-in and real activation requirements.
- Remaining-credit refund was requested inside the 30-day window.
- Cases, replies, payments and porting records are archived.
- The appeal contains only truthful, verifiable information.
Conclusion
For a reader facing a giffgaff account disabled or disconnected notice, the friendly answer is not a secret “instant unban.” It is a controlled loss-reduction sequence: protect account access first, preserve the number second, then pursue credit and a complaint.
If the SIM still works, the absence of an email is not a long-term guarantee. Use the working window to add backup verification and reconsider whether the service's roaming rules fit the real use case. If the number is already deactivated, the 30-day PAC and remaining-credit window matters more than any community workaround.
FAQ
- Has giffgaff banned every user in China?
- Multiple similar long-term overseas-use reports appeared after July 27, 2026, but this review found no public first-party announcement saying every user in China had been banned. giffgaff's current help page says account reviews are assessed individually.
- Can I keep my giffgaff number after it is deactivated?
- giffgaff says an agent can provide a PAC within 30 days of deactivation so the number can be transferred to another UK network. After 30 days the number may return to the available pool. The PAC itself is valid for 30 days.
- Can I request a PAC from China by texting 65075?
- giffgaff lists texting PAC to 65075, account settings, and 43431 as request methods, but its page also says a PAC request must be made in the UK. If you are overseas, the text fails, or service is already disabled, contact an official agent.
- Can a UK IP, location spoofing, or Wi-Fi Calling prevent a ban?
- Community posts discuss these tactics, but this review found no reliable official basis or reproducible restoration evidence. They do not replace account migration, an official case, a PAC, or a refund, and false location or identity information can create additional risk.
